Last weekend Tarquin was out with novice scramblers Piotr and Magdalena for 2 days of scrambling skills. They went up the excellent grade 1 North Ridge of Tryfan on Saturday where they looked at route selection, movement skills and some basic rope skills. They came down the grade 1 Little gully where they were able to put into practice some of their new skills. Looks like a top day
On the Sunday they moved up the grades and climbed Dolmen Ridge on Glyder Fach. This is a pretty full on grade 3 scramble which required the use of climbing kit - harnesses and rope. At the higher end of the grades it's a pretty fine line between scrambling and rock climbing - a grade 3 will have moves of similar difficulty and certainly the exposure, the difference is that the hard moves are usually short lived with areas of easier stuff in between. Still fairly serious stuff. The weather was once again excellent and looks like another brilliant day out. Piotr and Magdalena certainly thought so
"..Wow, what a great experience. I learnt a lot and had so much fun. Thank you Tarquin..." Magdalena.
