RAF MR Climbing Course

June 9, 2017

At the start of June I was fortunate enough to be working with my former employer, the Royal Air Force Mountain Rescue Service, alongside some old colleagues and plenty of new faces. My job for the week on their Summer Rock Climbing Course was to give a couple of their climbing leaders, Tommy and Adam, training to become climbing instructors.

Already competent climbers we spent the week looking at a variety of ways a climbing instructor can teach / coach the various skills to become a safe climber. Much like what is required to pass the Mountaineering Instructors Award.

Climbing as a team of 3 and keeping tangle free

Climbing in parallel with 2 seconds

 Keeping the ropes tidy

Enjoying the Classic Rock route, Flying Buttress. Great introduction to multi pitch climbing.

Adam getting through the crux of Tennis Shoe, Idwal Slabs

 Climbing in the rain!
